Easy, Breezy Art

The art in my kitchen needed some sprucing up.

The frames were honey oak which matched our cabinets before we painted them white. (The cabinet painting happened "BTB" (before the blog) so I owe everyone a post about that adventure. Don't worry, it'll be coming  :-)

Anyways, now that the cabinets are white with oil rubbed bronze hardware, the honey oak really stood out.

Plus I wanted to switch out the art in the frames..... and I wanted to do it inexpensively. I mean we're turning our bedroom nook into a bathroom .... so money can't be just tossed around here.

Luckily I still had a bottle of deep brown spray paint left over from when I turned took bedroom picture frames from oak to espresso (again BTB)(Why didn't I start this blog years ago?)

I went to AC Moore and bought white mattes to replace the two-toned green ones. Then I picked up 4 sheets of scrapbook paper. I wanted to be able to change the art seasonally, but still have it look more like "art" and not as much "decoration". Does that make sense?

So I choose 2 sheets in the beautiful gold orange falling leaf pattern. I also grabbed 2 sheets in a red/silver snowflake/ reindeer pattern to eventually switch to for Christmas. You all know I can't say no to a great Christmas print  :-)

3 coats of espresso spray paint

2 coats of clear gloss spray paint (to ensure easy cleaning and durability in a kitchen)

While the frames were drying I played around with the matte boards and scrapbook paper to find out which parts I wanted to show in the frame.

I taped the placement to the back of the matte board, then cut the paper to the size of the board.

Once the frames were completely dry I popped the glass, and art into the frame and reassembled the backing.

Ta-da!!!    Super easy!!    I love the way the darker frames tie into the rest of the hardware in the kitchen. Plus the art feels modern and I love how it hints at the season.  (Don't mind the candle collection on top of the rack, that area is on my list of places to make prettier.)

The best part about this project is that there are countless options and patterns when it comes to scrapbook paper. Any theme, season, color, you name it. Plus most sheets are only about .55 - .99 cents a piece!

I love the new kitchen art, I keep staring at them.....when the light hits the gold, it sparkles ..... and that my friends is all it takes to make me smile.  Oh, that and a big brownie sundae.

                  Have a great day!

Adorable! You can probably paint that rack in the center the same color! I think that would look really great!
